"Saint Frances Talks to the Birds", 2008, by Doug Stapleton

Last night I went to Spain
to greet the bawdy birds of beauty,
who gathered with Rioja and Manchego
to toast Our Lady of The Well and Flame.

Then from their bright and variegated plumage
they pulled the mystic’s ancient cards,
to sing my future in their wise and winged ways
between bright candles and beneath a silent clock.

And from the sacred paper symbols,
two heart-cups poured an equal, loving wine.
La Luna shone in all its misty mystery
while the Ram-god burned sure upon his throne.

Thus nodding, the bird men sent me back to winter,
belly full of fire, olives, and the birth of wonder.
They chirp to me: “remember surrender”,
daring me to moon-howl in this less than quiet quickening.

brava!

This one is so beautiful I almost could cry. I love the tarot imagery.
