Calling All Angels...

Those of you who know me, know that I believe strongly in things unseen. I believe in the strength and beauty of prayer. I believe that we can move/transform energy at will in various ways. I believe that we can shape our lives and the world. I believe in the gift of love.

Those of you who know me also may know that I don't much like asking for help. I'd really rather do everything myself (a trait that has gotten me into much trouble in the past). Part of that dynamic is about control. I will admit that I do like some things to be done a "certain way. A deeper part of that tendency is about not wanting to feel weak or needy, not wanting to be a burden on those I love and not wanting to be disappointed. Many of those feelings are rooted in the past, I know, and I'm tweezing through them. I'm trying to figure out "what of these tendencies really serves me now"?

I'm also working to break patterns. 2010 is a BIG year for me. It is a busy year, full of opportunity, joy, work, art and time with loved ones. It is the year that I turn 40 (a milestone in our culture...cougardom here I come!). It is the year that I get an apartment on my own after not having lived alone in over 18 years.

In the spirit of pattern smashing I'm going to do something here that makes me squirm a bit. I'm going to ask for help. *deep breath* Here goes...

If you would like, I'd love your support with my upcoming move. I would appreciate any prayers, thoughts, wishes, workings, visualizations, etc. that you might put behind my getting a new place in which I can be happy and will thrive. I am still working to clear up the debt that I took on from a former theatre company and former relationship and I believe that your intentions and mine can work together to help me to find a good fit at a good price. Perhaps you could see me in a safe, cozy home that is within my budget and has these things:

~ Heat included
~ Lots of space with good storage so that my things fit with room left over for creative projects
~ SUNLIGHT! (after living for 2 years in a basement apartment, I am starving for windows and vitamin D)
~ Approval to paint (I love filling my home with saturated color and doing so helps me feel rooted)
~ Convenience to a train line or lines (I've got no car!)
~ Laundry in building
~ Hardwood floors (carpet makes my skin crawl)
~ Some space for outdoor plants (this could be a bit of yard, deck or balcony - anything that gets lots and lots of sun so that I can grow some of my own food. I have containers in which to plant, I just need a space for them).
~ Convenience to groceries (without a car, it means a lot to have a good grocery source nearby).
~ Recycling (blue bins or some other method)

And since I can ask for my heart's desire, I would also love:

~ A kitchen with lots of counter/cabinet space
~ The space/permission to compost
~ A dishwasher
~ Permission to have cats (in case I get lonely and decide I'd like to have pets).
~ A claw foot tub (how romantic can you get?)
~ Ethical, kind neighbors

Our lease expires April 1st so I'm going to start looking for a place in February (which is next week - my gods this year is going by quickly). Your support would mean a lot to me. And of course, if you'd like to offer more tangible support, I would never turn down tips on available places if you have them. I'd also really value folks with cars who would be willing to help me tote stuff from the old place. I would feed and dote upon any willing drivers, box-packers/unpackers, box-movers, room-painters, etc. and am open to bartering volunteer labor/goods/services in exchange for help.

Whew. I asked. I guess that was not too bad. :)

Jen, you know that Blue Lion and I will be there to haul rocks'n things.

I recommend the Humboldt Park area; lots of open green spaces and lots of community gardens. On the other hand, the 49th ward (Roger Park) is one of the most green-friendly aldermans in the city.

Just let me know when you want a date...a dark night, a low-riding minivan, 2 string cheeses and an apple juice from 7-11, and a lot of boxes :D

Hee-hee. You are wonderful and I will totally take you up on a date of rock hauling! I am seeing places now - so hopefully I'll know soon where I'm going and what that time line is.

Oh my brain bride...it has been too long. :)
