Where Have all the Bloggers Gone?

My friends page is so very quiet these days (with some notable and much loved exceptions). Instead of blogging, it seems like many folks have taken to Facebooking and/or Twittering. *shudder* I suppose it is interesting to share photos/links and to know each others random minutiae. Yet, I miss the depth and creativity of the old days.

*takes on "granny voice"* You know, in MY day, we took the time to write thoughtful, long....

Oh never mind - you get my drift.

I know exactly what you mean. I still write over here, though not daily -- there are some things I want to explore more deeply than is possible on Facebook, for one, and for two there are some more personal topics I just don't talk about on Facebook.

No - I don't get nearly as personal on FB...it just goes out to far too many people (who are from such random and different parts of my life).

That's right lady...get on it! ;>)

I haven't posted here in a few months, mainly because I haven't had the time to sit down and write. Work and class don't leave me with many large blocks of time. But I can dash off a Facebook status update in a minute or two at the office.

But now that my work contract has been shortened, I may soon find myself with a whole lot more livejournaling time. =B^)

Well I certainly don't wish you unemployment...though it is fun to read your posts. Good luck with work.

My sustainable food projects are eating into my in-front-of-the-computer time these days. LJ is definitely taking a bakc seat. Most of my blogging is over at mindfultable.blogspot.com . Check it out. I think you'd like it, even if it isn't really local to you.

WOW! Your ethical eating blog is fantastic. Go you! I subscribed (and only wish that I was local so I could check out all your fab findings). Thanks for sharing.

I completely agree! I miss my friends' more personal and in-depth posts, and miss writing them as well.

Have also been thinking about that. I do love the up-to-the-minute nature of Facebook. But really, do I need to know which random item I resemble? (True poll. Someone on my list took yesterday. He's a 12-inch square of carpet.)

I shall collect my thoughts and publish some of them. Later. Must finish coffee and work now. Cleaning two other peoples' houses. The things I do for my capitalist oppressors.

LOL - Well I'm guilty of finding out my fairy name, my sex name, my evil care bear name...etc., so I have no judgment. I do miss more thoughtful communication though.

Funny, I was thinking the same thing recently. I think I'm going to try to make a more concerted effort to write here as a result.

I've been off the blogosphere because I randomly started feeling really awkward, like I talk too much about myself. So I've felt weird about writing. It's kind of a strange thing to be self concious about, I guess, and a weird reason to not write. >.<

I've sometimes felt that way but then, no one is required to read my stuff - so I'm not exactly forcing myself on anyone. ;>)

FB--a mile wide, an inch deep
Well, I guess you know how I feel about this subject. I recently joined Facebook because I was the only person I knew who wasn't using it and because I got a fine new camera. I have found FB to be disappointing and mostly irritating. I feel concerned that people don't seem to want any greater depth.

Muddyslush suggested we have a lot in common & then I discover we've both been bemoaning the barren landscape that LJ has become. I'd love to get to know you better.

Hi there. muddyslush is one of my favorite people and I trust his judgment. I'll friend you here on LJ (if that's okay) so the getting to know each other better can commence.

Nice to meet you. :)

hi, hernes-moon.
I'm lj-friends with sissyhips. I was part of the thread party over at her journal when muddyslush recommended you to her. I wandered over here to lurk your LJ, and saw your entry here.

Would you be interested in getting to know another human here? I'll go ahead and add you; if you don't respond, i'll certainly get the message. :D

ps. looks like you're in chicago. i lived there for 13 years.

Hi there...I'd love to add you and will do so now. Anyone with Waterhouse's Circe as an icon piques my interest (it's one of my favorites).

I am in Chicago. Where are you now?
Oct. 20th, 2009 03:15 pm (UTC)
I totally noticed your icons! I love the stories behind these images.

I live in Portland, OR. Best city in the US, course it also happens to be the only place I've ever lived that I also actually chose. My sister lives in Glen Ellyn...just a stone's throw away from you.

I love you! And I'm talking you up!!!
Oct. 19th, 2009 06:27 pm (UTC)
You're too sweet. I love you too - and miss you.

BTW, I was told this past weekend that Anubis loves a nice black suit, preferably with a red shirt. Who knew? I thought that info would come in handy more often for you than for me. *smooch*
Oct. 19th, 2009 06:29 pm (UTC)
Hmm, that is intriguing! Hopefully Anubis will be satisfied if I am less than goth, but it's worth a go. :)

Oh I'm sure he will - but you know, it's a thought for a special occasion. ;>)
