Fill my days with color and song...

Yesterday I went to Greenmaker Supply Company to get no VOC paint for our new apartment. I had not been to Greenmaker before. It's a fun little place to visit and the customer service was the best I've experienced in ages.

If you're looking for no VOC paint, Greenmaker is not the only place that you can find it - unless you're like me, and love deep, saturated color. Happily, many "non-green" paint shops will do low or no VOC paints in lighter hues...so if you're decorating, there are eco-options out there without going out of your way.

Because these paints were a bit more expensive, we did not buy all the colors we will ultimately need - but did get supplies to paint the kitchen, living room and the full bath. I also got a variety of colors which will help me to create an offering; an act of devotion of my bedroom.

I tried scanning in our color chips to give you an idea of what we're doing, but the colors have shifted a bit through the process (they're very washed out). Still...

The kitchen will be red...."smoldering red" in fact (again, imagine something darker and richer than below).

If you know me, you are likely saying "of course" because I have created a red kitchen in every home I have ever had since leaving the nest 20 years ago. Because the kitchen in our new place is a very light and open room (my favorite in the house in fact), I'm not going to paint evey wall because it would give the illusion of less light and less space. Instead, I am doing two contrast walls in red and am leaving the walls with windows as they are (cream). The cream walls meet in a corner which juts out, column-like, into the room giving it a nice shape...so I'll paint that red as well to highlight it. I may also do some border work on the cream walls to draw it all together - but that depends on time, energy and life...

The living room is going to be a warm, spicy orange tone (though here, it looks more like a peach - but don't let the scanner fool you).

This is a leap for me...the girl who hated orange and yellow for much of her life, but working with Freya has opened me up to all those amber/orange/golden tones, so I'm expanding.

Each room will be painted with intention, and we plan to paint runes and other symbols in our base coats to bless the home and infuse it with our magic.

In my bedroom, I'd like to take that even further and am excited about an opportunity to do deep devotional work. I'll be painting in sacred space, and will be calling my allies, Freya, Herne and Malik Taus. The paint will be charged and again, I plan to layer symbols and runes in my base coat (though I have to be careful, as I'm using flat paint which emphasizes brush strokes). I'll be singing and chanting as I work, building and layering energy as I go and burning my best incense to honor and thank the beloved ones. I also plan to do border work in the bedroom, likely Norse knotwork/zoomorphics with rune bindings.

I chose three colors for my bedroom; a deep forest green (very Herne for me), a deep teal and purple. Together, they are quite complementary and evocative of a peacock feather.

The border work will be done in gold (it's Freya's fault - I'm actually a silver person, but in this place gold makes sense), and the bedding will bring in her amber/bronze/gold colors...assuming I can find what I want. If not, I plan to sew a duvet cover - which could provide a nice opportunity to deepen the magic and devotion, and would allow me to use some recycled/found materials - making it even better.

For some, this much riotous color may seem horrifying...but trust me - I have six planets ruled by Venus...it will be quite lovely when I'm done ;>)

What Ash said!! I love what you have showed of the colors so far, even if they are a little off from scanning. Would love to see final results!
