I wear you very close,
beneath my clothes,
in cream and shy spots that lie
between the freckles.
There, where I place those parts essential,
I made you space
and in this, am made new again.
Under my loudest laugh,
over my warmest curves, within my honeyest spice,
you echo.

I wear you in my smile;
in the million tiny motions
of one who learns joy
and does not want to unlearn it.
In hidden pockets and other precious places,
you’re there. In the set of my cap,
the spring of my step,
in the shimmer about me that bears
a thumbprint of vast, ever-flowered fields -
you.
