Gettin' Weepie,,,

My brilliant friend TF gave me a little Zen mp3 player for Yule. She did this because she knows I've been trying to go to the gym, and had almost killed myself trying to change a CD in a portable CD player while on an elliptical trainer (yes, it was like an episode of "I Love Lucy"). Not only was the Zen perfect for working out, but it also was already charged and loaded with a lot of great music, much of it new to me.

I did not realize how long it has been since I've found new music to love. Since I don't listen to the radio or watch TV, all I hear is music we already own and unless a friend introduces me to something new, I just keep following the same artists...which has put me in a music rut.

TF's zen tunes have brought me a few new interests, and she's gotten me hooked on The Weepies who I'm really digging...particularly their tune World Spins Madly On.

So friends, what new music would you suggest for me to explore?

Oh!! Oh!! Eisley and Alanis Morissette and Jewel and gosh I love girl bands. Snow Machine is awesome, but hard to find, but I can rip and mail you a CD! Oh! I can rip and mail you a CD! Do you want that? I'd like that, I love to share music!

Also, I have a little Zen MP3 player, too. (;

Did you happen to see August Rush by any chance? The soundtrack is phenomenal, and we've had a hard time keeping it in the store where I work p/t.

I don't know if you like harder rock at all, but Linkin Park's latest Minutes to Midnight is good. I suspect not your taste though.

I've been into a thing with girl bands/music...Sarah McLachlan, Beth Orton, and Dolores O'Riordan formerly of the Cranberries. I'm betting you would really like Eastmountainsouth.

Thank you SO much for sharing some suggestions with me...I'm excited. I know Sarah McLachlan and Dolores O'Riordan, but not August Rush, Linkin Park, Beth Orton or Eastmountainsouth...so you've given me some fun things to research and sleuth.

I hope you are well and are keeping warm. I can't wait to see you in Feb.

Love, Jen

I haven't listened to The Weepies much but I love all of Deb Talan's solo stuff.....it's the same general type of music, just her on her own.

I would also highly second the Beth Orton recommendation. She is amazing.

Other ideas......Hem, Kris Delmhorst, Feist, Postal Service

Thanks so much for the recommendations. I'm going to have fun!

I will have to listen to Deb Talan, given my Weepies binge.

I listened to some Hem today based on a "other people who bought this CD liked" recommendation on a music site...I want to hear more, they've got an interesting sound.

I hope you are well. I haven't talked to you in ages! Stay warm. Love, Jen
