"Peacock Tree" by Shaida Parveen

I am an eager transforennial,
toe-tapping my roots,
impatient at Spring’s bus stop.

The time to bud,
the time to change is coming.
I puff a sigh. I check my watch.

When that pastel ride arrives,
what will I be?
What will I bud?

Perhaps I'll sprout peacock feathers,
and a wild, warm tumble
of honeysuckle curls.

I'll open and unfurl a cloak of moss
and playful fiddleheads
from the curved cleft of my breasts.

The time to bloom,
expansion’s hour is coming.
I puff a sigh. I check my watch.

Tap. Tap. Tap.

I love this. Sprouting fiddelheads and all.

I too feel impatient for spring...which is the very best of seasons.
